Your Responsibilities:
• Own the technical direction of the backend domain and align it with platform strategy
• Lead architecture and solution design for complex initiatives
• Contribute directly to implementation, code reviews and technical problem-solving
• Drive engineering quality through standards, testing strategies and design patterns
• Improve reliability, performance and observability of services
• Support incident resolution and follow-up improvements
• Line manage engineers, providing coaching, feedback and development support
• Support hiring and onboarding activities
• Foster a positive engineering culture focused on ownership and continuous improvement
• Support agile ceremonies and help ensure predictable delivery
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery and Engineering teams on roadmap planning and execution
• Communicate progress, risks and decisions to stakeholders

What We Expect:
• Strong Java (11+) experience
• Strong relational database experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
• Experience with schema design and query optimization
• Strong software design and design pattern knowledge
• Experience working with event-driven systems
• Experience with automated testing including unit and integration testing
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
• Experience with JAX-RS, Dropwizard, Spring Boot or similar frameworks
• Experience working in agile development teams
• AWS cloud experience including EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, SQS, Kinesis and DynamoDB
• Experience operating production services
• Experience delivering complex features with safe rollout strategies and backward compatibility
• Experience leading, managing or coaching software engineers

Nice to Have:
• Docker

• Familiarity with functional programming concepts
